The Jackson PBA Local #168 has been awarding scholarships to graduating Jackson High School seniors for approximately 20 years. The PBA membership decided several years ago to remember deceased brothers that were part of the intricate fabric that made up the town of Jackson in which they lived and served.  The membership felt it could best continue their deceased brother's service to the community by remembering and honoring them by awarding a $500.00 college scholarship in their name. In continuing the tradition of service in the field of law enforcement, the scholarships are awarded to select graduating Jackson High School seniors who are pursuing a degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or a police related field.

The first scholarships issued by the Jackson Twsp. PBA were in memory of deceased brothers Robert Barry and Sgt. William Malick.  Brother Barry was a coach in various youth sports programs, and was involved in several community organizations. Brother Malick was instrumental in starting up the High School Golf team, and was also a member of several civic organizations. A third scholarship was added after the untimely passing of Brother Robert Ventura, when he was involved in a tragic car accident while in the performance of his duties in 2001. Brother Ventura was also a member of the volunteer fire company, as well as a member of other community civic and sports organizations.

The scholarships are awarded every June as part of the Jackson Memorial High School Scholarship Fund, and as of this year have been open to graduating Liberty High School seniors as well. The students must file their applications with their respective guidance offices by April and all applicants must write an essay explaining why they are wishing to pursue a career in law enforcement or a related field.
